I'm Mimi....your Atlanta custom muralist!
After my kitchen design career took a turn due to the economy, I was faced with a chance to make a change! Artistic my whole life, I had always painted murals as gifts for my girlfriends for their baby showers. After 2 of my best girlfriends got pregnant within a few weeks of each other, I was getting pretty good at this mural thing! After complete my latest nursery mural project, my mommy-to-be friend walked in and saw her son's room for the first time and exclaimed, 'You should charge!' A light bulb went off in my head, birds sang, clouds parted... and the idea for Mimi's Murals was born! Within a few weeks I was in business!
I started my little one-(wo)man show in September of 2009. (I just turned SIX! Woohoo!) It has been one of the most fulfuilling endeavors of my life! I know it sounds cliche, but it's true: if you do something you love, you'll never work a day in your life!
Now... what to call it? My oldest nephew, now 21, couldn't say my real name... and I was determined to be his third word. Mama, Dada, Mimi!! Seemed like a natural fit to name my little company Mimi's Murals, as it is so personal to me! In my family, my nick name has always been a term of endearment. To have my clients calling me that feels really special!
(true story: I had a 2 year old client who insisted on calling me Nana. Her mom explained to me that she has 2 grammas... Mimi and Nana... and she knew I had a gramma name, she just picked the wrong one!! Nana's Murals... nope, doesn't have the same ring to it!!)
I have always had a passion for decorating and interior design.
As opposed to many artists, who enjoy just the creative part, I truly enjoy all aspects of my business.. from the marketing and sales, to the planning and execution of a project. I have a keen eye for color and layout (thanks to my kitchen design background). I really look at a room as a whole, often reconfiguring furniture and educating my client as to the best layout. I am a perfectionist, sometimes falling into the OCD category... at first it was very hard to mesh 'artist' with 'OCD'... but in the end I have found it to be a real perk... 350+ murals later, I have developed a true style... I like pristine, clean designs, and not a drop of paint anywhere! =)
I take great pride in my work and hope you will enjoy living in it as much as I enjoyed painting it!
I am completely self taught. As a child, I was always artistic, and I LOVED doing projects for school because I could whip out my markers and pipe cleaners! My room was always a disaster, as I saw an artistic use for everything, from a piece of string to a half sheet of construction paper! I never realized that my love of all things crafty could lead to my calling!
I am honored to be able to do something so fun and fulfilling for my career!
I hope you can see my passion in my work. I look forward to creating a perfect space for you!
